July Bloom Day

There's quite a bit blooming in my garden this July. Some flowers are on my vegetable plants and some are on flowery plants. The Pink Diamond hydrangea tree started to bloom a couple of weeks ago, right on schedule. These flowers turn pink in the Fall, although, with the crazy weather last summer, they didn't turn pink last year. They sort of just went from white to dead. I hope to show you some pink blooms this year.

marigolds 7-8
My orange and yellow marigolds are in the raised box with squash, corn, and watermelon. The squash leaves are so huge that they're covering the flowers. They're still thriving though, and I feel like the squash leaves cover the marigolds so those stupid squirrels can't get to them and snip off the flower heads.

I've shown these bush bean flowers before, but I wanted to show them again because they're so pretty and light purple. I've only harvested a handful of beans but I see more coming!

cucumber flowers 7-8
The cucumber plants are blossoming like crazy and a lot of these tiny yellow flowers have popped up.

Before the rain came today, I saw a lot of pollinators in the garden, mostly bees. These little bees were getting drunk off the pollen (hence the bumble lush name!)

And here's one in a squash blossom. This guy wasn't moving and for a second there I thought I was going to have to pull his dead body out of the flower. But then I saw the little legs stretch and he drunkenly crawled out and slowly flew away.  Get some rest and come back little guy! There's much more work to do.

I'm linking up with Carol's fun Garden Bloggers Bloom Day meme. Stop by to see what's blooming in other's gardens this month.

p.s. Is anyone else excited for the new season of Breaking Bad tonight? I can't wait!!

  1. Ironically, even thought I live in NM, I've never caught "Breaking Bad." Netflix keeps recommending it to me. Maybe, I should check it out.

I saw bees going crazy on my zucchini blossoms today, but not on my cucumbers yet. Sorry about the squirrels.

    1. It's a good show! I started watching on Netflix too, which was great because I would immediately want to see the next episode. Hope you get some zucchini soon!

  2. The veggie flowers are just as pretty as garden flowers in my opinion - looks like you are in the running for a good harvest - fingers crossed.

  3. Don't you just love all those blooms. My cukes are covered with them too, so I'm hoping for lots of fruit to form. I didn't know squirrels ate marigolds! I have tons of squirrels running around my property, but they've never gone into my garden. I just planted another batch of bush beans, I put away a gallon from the first batch. Not enough, lol!

    1. That sounds great! I'd love to have gallons of beans too. We have two bush bean plants, but only one has produced so far.

  4. Funny about the bee sleeping in your squash blossom! Your blooms are looking good. I'm surprised the marigolds are still blooming under the shade of those big leaves!

  5. I love the veggies flowers best right now...my bush beans are also so beautiful. My squash or should I say pumpkin female blossoms are just not blooming...come to find out it may be this heat...they don't like warm night temps and that is what we are having...hope to get more soon...my marigolds bloom in the shade of the veggies too...I just love them....here's to more veggie blooms as they may be all I have if the heat and drought continue.

  6. I have seen those pollinators in the zucchini blossoms just rolling in it. They do sometimes seem dead. They must be in heaven when they are involved in there. :)

  7. The Marigolds interspersed with the Squash are pretty, and I'll bet they keep the pests away? Good luck with the pink Hydrangea blooms--I'd like to see pictures of them. :)

  8. I like the marigolds and the hydrangeas should be very pretty this fall. Your vegetables look good. I am sorry about the critters that are causing problems for you in the garden. We have a lot of critters too - the insect type and racoons, ground squirrels, and who knows what else. It has been so dry that I think they are hurting for things to eat. Something keeps taking bites out of my tomatoes, and this has never happened before (well, at least not with wild critters - my dog used to do this). Enjoy the rest of the week!
