Best and Worst of My Garden--April 2012

white and purple azaleas, originally uploaded by Bumble Lush.
Where has April gone? I cannot believe 4 months of 2012 have come and gone already. I feel like I haven't accomplished much in my garden this month.

My first and only "Worst" this month is time. We were gone for 3 weekends this month, and work has been so insanely busy that I feel like a robot when I come home. No energy or desire to work the garden much. I have 3 more weeks on a project at work, and then things should calm down a little.

On to the best...

my potato patch April 2012
We're growing potatoes! They look good and are growing well.

spinach
Container spinach--it doesn't look like much, but it's enough for two people to have a nice steamed/sauteed side dish every few days.

spring onion patch
The spring onions seem to be doing well also. It smells so good when I move the stems around.

hosta progress
Look at my hosta plant on the right--It's making a comeback. Looks a little rough, but it's there.

We also got some much-needed rain over the last week. It washed the pollen away, but made it a little difficult to work outside too. I'm not complaining about that, though.

Feel free to link up below and share any of the Best/Worst in your garden too.

  1. I really don't have a best and worst post, but I did show all of April, so is it OK if I link in? I do love your azalea.

  2. Your garden is looking good - you would never know that it has been a little neglected. Hope you are able to relax a little soon.

  3. Your garden is looking good in spite of you being so busy! Well done - the sign of a well organised gardener :)

  4. I feel exactly the same way you do about the time/work thing. Sometimes I feel like I'm doing a mediocre job of a lot of things and not having enough time to devote to the things I really love. No free weekends and working full-time-plus is really tough. So, I would say I know how you're feeling and I hope the next few weeks give you some respite. How exciting that you have potatoes and onions coming in! And thanks for being honest about it all!

  6. @Donna--thanks for linking in! I always forget to post pics of my other azaleas--the non-pink ones.

@Elaine--thank you. The garden is sparse, I'd love to have a veggie garden going that looks like yours!

    @Christine--thank you!

@PlantPostings--aw,thanks! I just need to get thru the next 3 weeks and then I'll be ready for anything!

@Liz--I really hope we get a decent potato harvest. They're my favorite food, so if this works, I may have to convert the entire backyard into a big potato patch!

  7. Speaking of not having time, I still don't have my potatoes in the ground! I agree, where on earth did the first third of 2012 go?!? Your spuds look great, as do your onions! I wish I could figure out how to pack another 12 hours into the day sometimes, I feel so far behind this spring!

  9. Angela, such a great idea! I added my link and will try to remember to do this at the end of each month.

As for time... oh lordy, have you been reading my mind! Here we are, 4-6 weeks ahead of where we ordinarily are at this point in the spring, and what am I doing? I'm fretting about getting everything done! Love your raised bed... yours is so much farther along than ours!

  10. Everything is looking good. I have planted potatoes for the first time. They were looking a little bug-eaten, but looking better now. I just mounded some more dirt around half of them to see what happens. I hope your turn out great (mine too!)

  11. I'm jealous of your potatoes!!! My sweet potato slips haven't come yet an I'm itchy for them. Grr... I have extra ground cherry plants. Would you like one or two?? Considering you were the inspiration for my growing them, you're welcome to them!!

  12. I understand about not having time even if you have the desire for your garden. With summer vacations here for all of my cousins and nieces we are playing hosts to them all. And I am not able to find time to re-pot the seeds that germinated successfully.

Your garden looks great by the way. Your potatoes are good
