Wow, in 48 hours we've gone from spring to winter! There's been snow in other parts of the state this winter, but this is the first snowfall in my backyard, so now I feel like winter has officially begun.
The picture above is of my hydrangea bush last night, the same one that was budding just two days ago in the 65-degree temperature.

I like living in the mid-Atlantic where I can experience all four seasons. Although I don't like extreme weather, and I don't like being on the road with people who can't drive in snow, I do appreciate the four seasons and the different weather they bring. During the winter months, I like a little chill in the air and a little snow on the ground. I love cozy nights with hot tea, hot chocolate, wine, or soup. I like that a lot of nature is resting, waiting for spring that is just a few months away.
Do you like winter? Do you get snow where you live?
It's beautiful! And yes, I do like winter...it's a nice break from the extremes of summer. I love your thought about knowing that nature is resting. I like the thought too that we are resting...Enjoy your winter wonderland!
ReplyDeleteIn the UK we used to have definite seasons - but the last few years have been all mixed up - if we're going to have winter, let it be winter. Not my favourite season but without winter we wouldn't have spring to look forward to.
ReplyDeletePretty snow! We rarely get snow, and I think winter is anything 60 degrees or below. But, I don't think I'd like to live where it was perfect weather all the time. I want a break sometimes!
ReplyDeleteDear Bumble Lush, I saw the snow falling on DC on the television. We haven't had any yet. I agree with you about the seasons. I need a rest while nature is resting and couldn't imagine gardening year-round. I hope the seasons don't change too much. I just read your 'Harvest to date' and must say it is impressive. P. x
ReplyDeleteNo snow here, nor is it likely, but who knows? We had a little snow the past two years, and three in a row is possible! I'm not a winter person, but I do like a taste of it: the fire in the fireplace, hot chocolate, a good book to read or garden catalogue to peruse.
ReplyDeleteI like to cocoon in winter, too. It's a nice time to slow down after the holidays and have some quiet time.
ReplyDeleteyour rosemary bush looks like a christmas tree! it's beautiful. it snowed for a while here today, then completely melted and the sun came out an hour later. i didn't even wear a coat to work today, just a long-sleeve shirt. unheard of for january.
ReplyDeletei'm the same as you when it comes to needing all four seasons although i could probably get along with slightly fewer cold weeks and slightly more of the in-between temps.
I love snow and am really missing it this year after the last two winters in PA. I can't believe you got snow in DC---nothing here. I like the four seasons in the mid-Atlantic but not all in the same week.
ReplyDeleteWe were having a Spring day today. It was beautiful outside but not good for the plants. Right now at 8:30 pm it is 43°. Really this is unusual weather.
ReplyDeleteAnd today was amost 60 again.... The snow was definitely pretty while it lasted, though. :o)
ReplyDeleteOh you have just got me so excited for the weekend! Seattle is predicting its first snow fall for the season (which I was kinda dreading until I read your post) The thought of being warm and cozy indoors with a hot cup of tea sounds divine! I say bring on the snow!!
ReplyDeleteLike you, I like winter with a bit of cold and the beauty of snow. It has been very confusing to experience these extremes in temperature. I see the plants are a bit confused as well with some leaves peeking through the soil.
ReplyDeleteWow! Can you leave your rosemary outside all winter? Here my rosemary has to deal with the dryness of the house and my uncertain watering. My garden would love to have snow with the nighttime temps in the single digits.
