June Garden Recap

Hard to believe that half the year is gone already! I'm going to recap what's going on in my garden as we finish the month.
Quick update on my hydrangea woes....My internet searching has led me to believe there are multiple problems with my poor Endless Summer: root rot, powdery mildew, and probably some other type of fungus. I haven't had time to address this after work in the evenings, so I'm putting this project off until the weekend.

Now for the good news:

The tomatillos are looking great! I don't want to jinx anything, but all four plants are blooming, I've seen three different kinds of bees buzzing around them pollinating the blooms, and a couple of the plants have fruited. I hope to see continued progress here.

The Black Krim tomato plants have blossoms and are slowly producing fruit. Right now they're very small.

We planted five bush bean seeds and ALL of them germinated this week. I love when that happens!

This year we're growing a new kind of hot pepper--cayenne. The peppers have formed. They look like green beans and are sort of camouflaged. That's all for now. I'm looking forward to a long, relaxing holiday weekend.

  5. @SageButterfly-Thanks! We'll see what I can do with the poor plant this weekend. :(

@Holley--thank you. And I know, the hydrangea was doing so well. I guess I messed up somewhere.

@PlantPostings--that's the plan! Lots of tomatoes and peppers for salsa and other things. :)

@Emily--That pepper is outside but in a separate area to keep the plants with spider mites as far away from it as possible. It has a couple of fruit! I'll put up pictures soon.

  7. It looks like your garden is progressing nicely. I'm admiring your bush beans. I planted pole beans, but I'm having problems with groundhogs burrowing under the fence and eating the leaves off the plants. I haven't given up yet, I have new seeds germinating. I'm hoping my bleach rags will continue to keep them away, if not I may plant a few bush beans in containers.

  9. Tell me about the tomatillos. I've been growing them with seed from the States, The seed was late in arriving so the plants are way behind yours. I think it's too cold over here so I planted half outside and left the rest in the green house. How tall are yours? I may need to stake them if they don't die of cold first.

  10. I too tried Cayenne this year. My cockatoo will be the recipient. My husband might eat them too.

  11. Hi! I'm also outside in DC in northern VA. Your veggies look great! I grew peppers once just for the fun of it and turned them into salsa. I also volunteer for a no-kill shelter. Do you still have your kittens?
