Thunderstorms

Well, these are the hazards of a container garden. We got some much-needed rain last night. Unfortunately it came in the form of a flash thunderstorm that knocked over most of our pots. My Sweet Chocolate and Purple Beauty peppers fell over (top photo) and so did most of my Black Krim tomato and tomatillo pots. We'll need to re-stake the tomatoes, but thankfully we didn't lose too many fruit.

p.s. In the last picture, you can see a Black Krim starting to turn red (lower right corner)!

  1. Sorry to see your plants were knocked down, but the rain is great. Wish we could get a nice soaking rain.

  2. I was so happy to see that storm coming through! We might get a bit more tonight. Sorry about your pots. :o( Next year you might want to try some of the long rectangular planting boxes. They look much harder to knock over and would probably fit well on your deck.

  3. that's awful! there was a storm here the other night with high winds that knocked down a giant tree branch right on top of a large part of my friend jeanne's garden. it smooshed one of her tomato plants, a tomatillo, and i forget what else. so far i've been lucky but it's definitely turning into summer storm season.

  4. It's always a bit scary how powerful thunderstorms can be. I'm glad you didn't lose much.

  6. Thanks everyone! A few unripe tomatoes rolled off, but overall we didn't lose anything and the roots all seem to be intact, especially with a couple of my pepper plants that got pummeled.
